Public Health England brought in to investigate concerns first raised by Wirral Leaks

We’d very much like to thank one of our commentators   “Thus Spoke Zarathustra” who tipped us off that one of our stories made the BBC News at Six . Please note you’ve only got until 1.30pm tomorrow to view the news item.

It would appear that the karma police have decided to wake from their somewhat extended slumber. All things considered, a profit making organisation is, after all, a profit making / profit seeking/ organisation, – and masquerading as a “charity” does not change the fact.

Hardly surprising really – wherever there is a commodity to exploit – in this particular instance, ill people – there is a kindly charity – with its tax deductible charity organisational benefits – only too happy to help out – and make its difference.

With unaccountable commissioners driven by what appears to be personal ideological wants its all really hardly a surprise. – tut tut and never mind,

You vote your leaders – and place your trust.

Earlier this week we made reference to the fact that a £7 million + contract with Change,Grow ,Live to provide drug and alcohol support services had been rubber stamped by Wirral Council’s Labour Cabinet. As the BBC news report details the reported deaths of 74 people in 18 months  who used these services have now  been reported by Wirral Council to the regulator Public Health England for investigation. We can’t help wondering if we hadn’t publicly raised these concerns whether they would have been ignored although we cynically note that the announcement of Public Health England’s investigation comes the day before national statistics on drug related deaths are published.

However what we are particularly sickened by is the behaviour of highly paid senior officials both within Wirral Council and the NHS who were quite happy to raise their concerns privately or leak information and let us take the flak for running the original story!.

  1. Any properly run organisation would now put a hold on the contract until a full investigation has taken place. Problem is we all know Wirral is not properly run!

  2. Lordy

    The laughs continue.

Turned the news on and a lady was asking whistleblowers to come forward.

    Ooroo

  3. This company is for profit only, they show no empathy for service users or their staff!

I would like to know how they measure ATRs ( alcohol treatment requirement) what is classed as a successful outcome? To be discharged once the order has finished Alcohol free, how? When clients arent even tested!!! Yet the stats state alcohol free!!

Decissions being made with no consultation with the service user and based on the amount of methadone they are prescribed.

Forcing people into recovery group’s when they are not ready to be told ” if you don’t attend they will be discharged.

What about the lack of DBS proper check’s, staff have been working for 18mths and only just being asked!!!

I could go on!! The whole system needs investigating not just the rise in death’s.

  4. G’day Leaks

Interesting reading L but why don’t they just fess up.

Five and a half years on and the deluded buffoons are still living in denial.

C’mon Sir Git you must have read all those reports by now go give them some good, decent, honest advice and don’t stand for them calling you names like on that wirralgate tape.

    Luv ya Lordsville XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

  5. Reporting deaths to PHE in one of their own services is a bit like reporting a lost sheep to the local wolf! PHE and the LA put the NHS service out to tender and they approved the cheap and cheerful and now, hopelessly inept, CRI, CGL.

  7. Another whitewash another investigation put the deaths down to an ageing population!…I regularly use this service with clients and continue to complain
could go on and on an on unbelievable and lots of avenues for concern

    • Denise, if you privately email me at johndivney@yahoo.com I would be happy to listen to your concerns We are still worried about CGL and its activities and continue to press authorities for change. Follow me on twitter as well, @johndivney
