Tourist Trap

Demolition 014

It seems as though that the demolition of this infamous Borough Rd eyesore in Birkenhead has taken as long as the construction of the famous Sagrada Familia cathedral in Barcelona.

You may remember an excellent report which we published earlier this year which questioned Wirral tourist figures which were being bandied about.

Tourism Awards : Wirral-style

Our knowledgeable contributor has undertaken further analysis and apparently according to the figures Wirral has the same lure for tourists as Barcelona (hence our picture and comments above).

Therefore the moral of this story is , as we’ve often said :  question everything !

Wirral Tourist Figures – Fake News?

As a rule I hate banging on about things, but, in this case I’m going to make an exception and bang on about the Wirral Tourism figures!

I apologise for the length of this item but I am truly dumbfounded that the people who are supposed to be running this Borough believe the figures.

Power Boy Pip and our very own tourism champ Tony ‘The Hoff’ Jones have both quoted the figures.

Wirral Chamber of Horrors, Wirral View, the Liverpool Echo, VisitWirral.com and various other outlets have fallen foul of the scourge of the internet age, copy and paste (ad infinitum). Nobody questions the figures because they are on the internet, therefore they must be true! Everybody believes them.

Well after contacting Lord Leaky a few months ago I got to thinking about the figures and did some deeper digging. I have come to the conclusion they are a load of spin. Should I be surprised? Probably not.

Were they used to ‘woo the Shiu’? Or are they to reinforce the case for a golf complex? Maybe they are just to say what a wonderful job the council and our esteemed Chamber of Horrors are doing in promoting this green and pleasant peninsula? Whatever the reason, they’re rubbish!

Its difficult to present the full picture succinctly so I shall use round figures and as few as possible.

Links to the documents are scattered around if you really want to read them???

The figures quoted for Wirral are:

8 Million visitors

£385m income

Over 5000 jobs

That equates to 22,000 visitors per day each spending £48 each! Do you believe that?

Lets put this into perspective. Barcelona is introducing legislation to limit tourism as they are overwhelmed. They had 8.3m tourists in 2015. (About the same as Wirral. Ha Ha Ha Ha)

Now at this point dear reader you are probably thinking ‘I’ve read this before’ but please bear with me. (You don’t need to read all the figures below, just look at the total.)

Figures from North West Research, Tourism Data Summary published July 2016.

That means more people visited Wirral than went to all of the above attractions and events (and some). Yeh!

Are you starting to see where I’m coming from with this?

The World Tourism Organization defines tourism as people “travelling to and staying in places outside their usual environment for not more than one consecutive year for leisure, business and other purposes”

(Acronym alert!!!!)

The figures are compiled using the STEAM model, (Scarborough Tourism Economic Activity Monitor) by http://www.globaltourismsolutions.co.uk on behalf of Liverpool City Region Local Enterprise Partnership.

Well, I don’t know how they do things in Scarborough but it don’t work in this neck of the woods!

Their beautifully illustrated pdf is available here

And this document gives the game away. https://www.liverpoollep.org/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/wpid-digest-of-tourism-statistics-12-2013.pdf

Section 1.5 tells us that:

A key component of the way in which STEAM works is its definition of ‘day visitors’; this is

defined as a person travelling to a district other than that in which they live, for a non-

routine purpose, with a stay of over 3 hours. Thus, someone making a trip to Southport Pier from Liverpool could be classed as a day visitor, but not someone making a

similar trip who lived in Formby.

Now I understand. These aren’t visitors to the Wirral, they are visits within the Wirral by people who live here. Hardly tourism or even visitor numbers.

Do you now see how useless these figures are?

So there you have it. Fake news!!

http://wirralview.com/news/wirral-enjoys-fresh-boost-visitor-economy-0

And yes, I did lose my bet on The Wro winning bar of the year 2017. They weren’t even nominated so I suspect they were asked to withdraw this year to give someone else a chance!

Demolition 012

Sagrada Familia it ain’t – but at least it’s a start.

Green ‘N’ Gone

Jeff Green

So farewell then Cllr Jeff Green as leader of the local Conservative group.

http://www.wirralglobe.co.uk/news/15272929.Wirral_Council_Conservative_group_has_a_new_leader___Jeff_Green_ousted_after_15_year_reign/

We won’t be shedding a tear as we were never a fan. We regularly made the observation that he was someone who seemed more comfortable being in impotent opposition than being in a position of power.

As we know Green briefly reaped the rewards of the Martin Morton whistleblowing scandal by getting the backing of the Lib Dems to oust Labour leader Steve Foulkes and to subsequently become the leader of Wirral Council.

However his tenure as leader was short lived and he seemed relieved to resume the position of a perpetual purveyor of “‘faux outrage” (to quote Labour councillor Matthew ‘Matty Patty’ Patrick) . Meanwhile the returning Labour administration, this time under Cllr Phil ‘Power Boy Pip’ Davies, went back to their bad old ways – cover ups, secrecy and cronyism – all in the name of rampant reputation management.

All of which meant that the seismic shockwaves that were supposed to result from a series of whistleblowing cases ended up being no more than mere tremors.

Of course Green should have read the writing on the wall ( or more accurately the writing in the first Patricia Thynne investigation into the Wirralgate scandal ) when Foulkesy described him as ‘kindred’.  As both are now ousted party leaders their bond can only be closer.

As far as we were concerned his apparent complicity with the Wirralgate scandal revealed in the second Thynne report is his biggest failure when it comes to trying to hold the Labour administration to account. His compliance resulted in the biggest scandal in Wirral Council’s history to be all neatly wrapped up in an unwarranted apology from Foulkesy to Green.

WIRRALGATE! – A Portrait in Green and Yellow

We shall wait and see as to whether Green’s successor as Tory leader , Cllr, Ian Lewis adopts the same collusive approach as Green and takes to winking at his oppo, Power Boy Pip, after declaring how ‘outraged’ he is about the latest Wirral Council cock up.

Election Selection : Week 3

frank-and-corbyn

Frank’n’Jezza do the foodbank fandango

Fleetfooted Frank

When it comes to the question of Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn ,our very own Labour Party parliamentary candidate for Birkenhead ,Frank Field, have danced around each other with all the deftness , if not the grace, of Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers.

Firstly it should be remembered that Frankfield nominated Jezza for the Labour leadership to encourage ‘debate’ within the Labour Party , when Corbyn cruised to victory he immediately started backtracking and backstabbing  Jezza – regularly briefing the press about Corbyn’s supposed shortcomings including agreeing with J.K.Rowling, the dreary and self righteous writer of tedious children’s tales, that Corbyn was an electoral liability. There appeared to be a slight rapprochement when last year Frankenfield invited Jezza to one of his ideologically dodgy ‘feed the poor’ projects just after the latter had seen off a leadership challenge . Frankenfield was even recently named in an article in the Daily Telegraph (aka Torygraph) as one of Corbyn’s staunchest supporters alongside John McDonnell and Diane Abbott. Huh? – we must have missed that!

The Urge to Purge

Now in his latest media interview published this week Field acts the drama queen again –  clutching his chest and saying that it’s a ‘tragedy’ that Corbyn can’t sell vote winning policies. We’re wondering whether Field is referring to same policies which he described last year as ‘serious claptrap’!

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/av/uk-politics-36629342/corbyn-has-serious-claptrap-problem

There is a particularly interesting revelation in the interview that ‘left-wingers’ (presumably Corbynistas within the Birkenhead Constituency Labour Party) had been preparing an attempt to remove him as Labour candidate for the next General Election – just as Militant tried 30 years ago. Sadly, this latest threat to his personal fiefdom of Birkenhead vanished when Theresa May called a snap election and all sitting Labour MPs were automatically reselected. “I have been imposed by Jeremy,” he joked. “I have had this indignity of the leader imposing me on the party.”

Oh, Frank you’re such a wag!

Frankenfield, 74, also said the prospect of retirement filled him with dread: “I would collapse soon, it would be over. I hope to hit the wall running, that’s the aim.”

Talk about amateur dramatics! – makes us want to pass Frankenfield some metaphorical rollerskates so he can hit the wall much quicker and with greater force.

Read more at: https://inews.co.uk/essentials/news/politics/frank-field-tragedy-corbyn-cant-sell-vote-winning-policies/

Angela’s Activists

Talking of amateur , Wallasey MP Angela Eagle has proved herself to be a rank amateur when it comes to political guile , especially when compared to Frankenfield. We hear from a Labour insider that Wallasey Constituency Labour Party activists have flown the Eagle’s nest to assist Margaret Greenwood’s campaign in  Wirral  West.

Now we don’t know whether this is a result Ange’s attempted leadership coup against Jezza which might have upset the Corbynistas within Wallasey CLP or it was the Brickgate episode or the false allegations of homophobia made against party activists . Alternatively  it could be Labour party activists have made a pragmatic decision to campaign in what will be the only closely contested election on Wirral.

As surely they must know that  Tony Caldeira – a distant runner up in this week’s Liverpool City Region Metro Mayor election to Steve ‘The Brickie’ Rotheram-  will find much richer pickings ( pun intended) in the West Wirral constituency.

Rising Wood

Gillian Wood’s ascendency to councillor for Claughton, where she stand alongside Cllr Steve Foulkes and Cllr George Davies, elicited some comments about her involvement in the Wallasey CLP shenanigans

Gilly Keeps Bad Company in Claughton

We can’t confirm any of these allegations , mainly as the people who made the allegations have never been identified . However  we have been reliably informed that her partner, James Laing, stood for Labour in a safe Tory seat of Eddisbury in the last General Election. Her son Tom Laing is also active in Wirral Young Labour.  So with Gilly’s electoral victory could we be looking at a rising political dynasty on Wirral?………….

Wheel of Misfortune

Big Wheel Echo 011

Pic courtesy of Echo. How refreshing not to see an artist’s impression of Wirral Waters!

One of our readers contacted us before Easter to give us the heads up about a Wirral Council approved erection in New Brighton:

‘Because of the uproar the robbing 2hats could not charge for parking at Perch Rock. So what do they do ? They build a big wheel and other fairground attractions which will take up most of the parking and take a cut of all monies generated. More than one way to skin a cat as they say……..’

Now it seems that after only three weeks the wheels have come off this latest money-making wheeze as the big wheel comes crashing down down to earth when it is dismantled this Sunday.

It seems the man putting the spoke in the big wheel was infamous self publicising local solicitor (and ex-Wirral councillor) David Kirwan who contacted Wirral Council on behalf of his client ,the Wilkie Leisure Group which run the rather tired Adventureland site over the road, complaining that they weren’t consulted about the rival ‘attractions’.

Wirral Council have dismissed claims that these developments have anything to do with a legal  challenge questioning the tendering process for the attractions and that the big wheel only had temporary planning permission.

Whatever the reason it means that visitors will ,for the time being, be denied the opportunity to have spectacular views  of those beautiful wind turbines as this is one big wheel that won’t keep on turning and rolling on the river.

Gilly Keeps Bad Company in Claughton

Claughton mafia

Pic courtesy of Wirral Globe : We’ve edited the innocent party on the left (if there is such a thing)

Decorum – admittedly not our strong point – prevents us from commenting on the previous incumbent as councillor for Claughton but as you can see from the gormless picture above (‘Thumbs up everyone!’) Gillian Wood is the newly elected third councillor for Claughton after a spectacularly underwhelming 30% voting turnout.

http://www.wirralglobe.co.uk/news/15267875.Labour_keeps_control_of_Claughton_in_by_election/

Jolly Gilly , all perky in polka dots , finds herself flanked by the two other councillors for Claughton who we regard to be the two most dishonest and disreputable politicians at Wirral Council (well, now that Jim Crabtree has finally been found out) . Cllr George Davies and Cllr Steve Foulkes  (for it is they) then find themselves flanked by the two politicians who have scandalously sustained them in their positions of power. So it’s a thumbs down from us for council leader Cllr Phil ‘Power Boy Pip’ Davies and Birkenhead MP Frank Field as we find ‘The Crafty Foxes’ all present and incorrect in the same corny photo-op.

Did Power Boy  Pip suspend Cllr George Davies when he heard the tape where he heard his namesake racially abuse a senior officer of Wirral Council and offered a ‘sweetheart deal’ to a favoured group of complainants ? Of course he didn’t – Frankenfield was having none of it. Gorgeous George is his political agent and Pip is weak.

Did Power Boy Pip persuade Cllr Steve Foulkes to stand down when Foulkesy received his mayoral nomination in an attempt to prevent bringing the local Labour Party into further disrepute. Of course he didn’t – Foulkesy was having none of it. He’s shameless and hardfaced and Pip is weak.

Does Gilly know what’s she’s letting herself in for , does she care or will she succumb to the lure of ‘scroundrelism’?

Wirral Council Scoundrels : Five Years On

Meanwhile Her Ladyship asks the pertinent question as to why Frankenfield looks like a vintage municipal binman? Could it be the poverty tourist and virtue -signalling gesturist is going for some retro street-cred?

Mayor Balls

Metro Loco 015

So have you all voted yet in the bore-fest that is the Liverpool City Region Metro Mayor election?

We studied the Mayoral election booklet that was sent to Leaky Towers before we decided where to place our X ( or X X – as we lucky people get to choose a second candidate!) We’re still not sure what the Liverpool City Region ‘Metro’ Mayor is for , although we read that he – because let’s face it it will be Steve the Brickie – will have a range of powers including strategic housing and planning ,transport and highways, business growth, energy and environment, finance and European funding.  He’ll be a busy boy then – although doing what exactly we’re not quite sure. I suppose we should be thankful that this election didn’t take place 20 years ago as our very own Frank Field said he’d fancy his chances. Can you imagine Frankenfield meddling in everything left, right and centre? Frightening! But anyway back to the current eight candidates and their policies/pledges/pleas/promises – call them what you will…………………… http://liverpoolcityregionelects.org/media/1006/mayoral-booklet.pdf

We’re trying to be objective here but what struck us reading them all is that Steve ‘Brickie’ Rotheram’s pages are decidedly short on any actual concrete plans. Plenty of soundbites and platitudes  and needless to say ‘the vision thing’-  “ My vision is for a region that is ambitious ,fair, green, connected and together”, ” I will stand up for every community and ensure every voice is listened to”  etc; etc;  Yes , Steve , but how?

All of the other candidates set out exactly what they want to do and how they want to do it . Even though one candidate Paul Breen doesn’t appear in the booklet at least we can tell from his handle Get The Coppers Off The Jury what he wants to achieve !

Roger Bannister ( Trade Unionist and Socialist Coalition – TUSC) may not be the same man who was the first to run the mile in under 4 minutes but he does set out 5 key aims.  Tony Caldeira (the Conservative Party) sets out a 6 point ‘Tony’s Plan for the City Region’ .

Similarly Tom Crone (Green Party)) has a 5 point plan as does Tabitha Morton ( Women’s Equality Party) who has the same number of ‘priorities’. Carl Cashman has 4 parts to his ‘vision’ whilst Paula Walters (UKIP) must have double vision as there are 8 parts to her particular ‘vision’ for the City region.

Shame that none of the visions ,plans ,priorities will come to fruition as we know that with six boroughs in the City region and all of them Labour-controlled that Steve the Brickie is a shoo-in . This might explain his ‘can’t be arsed’ entry prepared by his agent , head of North West Labour executive, Anna Hutchinson. We are however treated to a full page picture of Steve the Brickie wistfully gazing into the middle distance wearing a ’96’ badge , campaigning wristbands and stroking a puppy ( we made the bit about the puppy up – but you get our drift).

So having considered all the information on offer we’ve decided to vote for Tabitha Morton from the Women’s Equality Party. With a name like that she seems to be ‘one of us! one of us! one of us!’ to purloin Steve the Brickie’s rather cultish election tagline. Talking of cults wouldn’t it also be good to shake up the tired old male -dominated City Region political scene? Go Tabitha!

Metro Loco 022

The Crafty Foxes

Crafty Foxes

We’re grateful for those people who send us interesting pictures of Leaks favourites that they come across on social media. Although it has to be said that when it comes to Cllr Steve Foulkes we have a gift that just keeps on giving.

Here is our least favourite Wirral Council fucker -upper after apparently having a drink in a pub called ‘The Poachers’ (!) . As you can see , a relaxed and casually-attired Foulkesy poses next to a barge called ‘The Crafty Foxes’ . Now we can’t work out if this picture means Foulkesy is all-knowing or knows nothing at all.  But what we do know that if Frank Field, Cllr Phil ‘Power Boy Pip’ Davies and Cllr George Davies were in the picture it would make perfect sense. In fact it would be so self-referential it could be called ‘meta’.

We say this as we have recently discovered yet more about the ‘Wirralgate’ scandal and in particular the involvement of pathological liar Foulkesy. So having lied incessantly in the first Wirralgate investigation conducted by a seemingly gullible and negligent consultant Patricia Thynne, Thynne was called back in to earn another £17K wedge for cleaning up her own mess. This is astonishing when you consider the world and her husband knew Foulkesy had transparently lied during her first investigation. Although those who could actually do something about it just sat on their hands, shut their mouths, and/or kept cashing the cheques.

Thynne put it more diplomatically than we would by stating in her 2nd report: “I am not persuaded by the evidence of Cllr Foulkes ……..I found it difficult to get Cllr Foulkes to be precise or detailed . His responses were vague, inclined to be evasive and I found them ‘economical with the truth’ and unconvincing”

WIRRALGATE! – ‘Foulkesy the Fibber’

Or as we’d say – he’s a big fat fucking liar.

Let’s rewind : If you remember Wirralgate concerns a cover up involving all of ‘The Crafty Foxes’ named above.  It all started off with Frankenfield telling some wingebag wanting to scam some money off the Council because him and his mates claim to be ‘whistleblowers’  (yeah right!) to stop causing trouble and threatening staff at Wallasey Town Hall and to expect a call from his political agent  Cllr George Davies .

Davies duly calls ( unawares that he is being recorded) and goes on to tell the bogus ‘whistleblower’ that Foulkesy is still having grief for being a monumental failure and in the game of whistleblowing political football they need an equalizer to get at (equally appalling) Tory leader Jeff Green and he needs to  forget about due legal process and calls Wirral Council’s Head of Law Surjit Tour  ‘a bloody useless Chink’ (like you do!)  and promises to sort him and his guys out if they provide him with a document that Foulkesy remembered reading years before in former Head of Law Bill Norman’s files.  The ‘whistleblowers’ obligingly hand over the document and subsequently Foulkesy hands over the document to the former political editor of Liverpool Echo Liam Murphy (like you do!). As we know from Thynne ‘s second report Murphy went on to make a covert recording of the Wirralgate covert recording and played it to Wirral Council’s Head of Communications (like you do!). Liam Murphy is no longer the political editor of Liverpool Echo (go figure!)

All of this will be familiar to regular Leaks readers but here’s the thing :

THAT DOCUMENT THAT FOULKESY CLAIMED TO HAVE SEEN IN BILL NORMAN’S FILES WAS NEVER THERE – IT WAS WRITTEN ON DEMAND BY ONE OF THE ‘WHISTLEBLOWERS’

So more lies from Foulkesy and more evidence that the ‘Wirralgate’ complainants are no more than opportunistic scam merchants and an explanation of why they will never do the right thing and expose REAL Wirral Council corruption – because they’re up to their necks in it and only interested in the money. And yet the two most prominent politicians on Wirral – Pip and Frankenfield – are willing to indulge them with bespoke inquiries into their overblown claims for compensation. Even Pip said they were using the recording of Cllr George Davies to extract money out of Wirral Council and yet is seemingly willing to go along with it!

Funny that isn’t it?

Unfortunately the joke’s on us – as it’s us who has to pay highly paid public servants to protect a corrupt political elite. Shame on them all but particularly ‘The Crafty Foxes’ !

Election Selection : Week 2

Corbyn Street 011

So how are you good people bearing up to the pressing of the flesh and unexpected visits from strangers suddenly seeking your votes to keep them in the easy life to which they have become accustomed? Sickening isn’t it?

Fear not – Wirral Leaks is here to delve into the dark depths of the democratic process and reveal what an utter sham modern politics has become.

Blonde Ambition Revisited

We note that Wirral West political failure Esther McVey has landed on her kitten heels yet again and inherited the safe Tory seat of Tatton previously occupied by former Chancellor George Osborne. Decorum prevents us from commenting further -otherwise c’s and t’s would abound. And we’re not talking Conservative or Tories!

http://www.wirralglobe.co.uk/news/15250166.Ex_Wirral_West_MP_Esther_McVey_to_contest_George_Osborne___s_seat/

Corbyn Street

As you can see from our main picture , one of the first streets you enter when you cross the border from Birkenhead into Wallasey is funnily enough called Corbyn Street.

So let’s start off with the battle for Wallasey. Not between the political parties but the in-fighting within the Wallasey Constituency Labour Party (CLP). Let’s hope they’ve called a ceasefire in the run up to the General Election (GE). After Brickgate, and the sudden suspension of Wallasey CLP members for false allegations of homophobia and just when current incumbent Angela Eagle declared her challenge to Jeremy ‘Jezza’ Corbyn’s leadership we now understand Wallasey CLP will not meet until after the GE. How convenient for political opportunist Ange seen here slumming it over the weekend at the Typhoo factory in Moreton

Ange - Typhoo

You only get an OMFG with Typhoo. Ange covers up – and not for the first time!

Premature Electioneering

Of course Ange is a rank amateur when it comes to local politicking. However the master of the genre, Birkenhead MP Frank Field (aka Frankenfield)  is showing signs of slacking. Has he peaked too soon ? ( oo- er missus!). He’s already called up the Green card ( yawn!) and attacked an easy target in the rotund shape of  ‘Sir’ Philip Green.

http://www.wirralglobe.co.uk/news/15242568.Frank_Field_says_Sir_Philip_Green____could_still_lose_knighthood_year_after_BHS_collapse___/

The tittylipped billionaire peer of the realm immediately hit back and said Frankenfield was using him as a ‘political football’. If ‘Sir’ Philip lived on Wirral instead of sailing around on his yacht in the Med he would understand that it is what Frankenfield does best #Wirralgate!

http://www.wirralglobe.co.uk/news/15246425.Sir_Philip_Green_accuses_Frank_Field_of_using_him_as____political_football___/

All we will say is that those who live in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones. As far as we’re concerned Field is currently camped (no pun intended) in Sefton Park’s Palm House.

Needless to say Frankenfield has already called the ‘starving mites’ into the political equation.

http://www.wirralglobe.co.uk/news/15250260.Parents_in_Birkenhead_going_without_food_to_feed_their_children_in_school_holidays/

The only place he has left to go is anti-social behaviour. To which we can only say has he checked out the Birkenhead CLP lately? If he has he must realise that ASB (#Foulkesy etc;) is essential to keeping this vile hypocrite in power.

Blank Halliday

Blank Halliday 011

Wirral Council – experts in blanking the people who pay their wages/expenses/allowances

As the denizens of Wallasey Town Hall breath a sigh of relief that they’ve survived another week (well those not on long term sick leave anyway) and can look forward to a bank holiday weekend we provide an update on the Stewart Halliday situation.

Readers will remember Stuey ‘laughing all the way to the bank’ Halliday is the recipient of a humongous salary courtesy of Wirral Council taxpayers despite leaving his previous employer City of York Council (CYC) with questions to ask about his rather casual approach to contracting arrangements.

Indomitable local resident Charles Nunn is particularly aggrieved that his Council Tax and that of many other Wirral tax payers appears to be being spent on a series of snake oil salesmen and has pursued this matter with Wirral Council CEO (the ‘O’ seemingly standing for ostrich) Eric ‘Feeble’ Robinson. Stressed Eric provided the following response:

Dear Mr Nunn

Thank you for your email  dated 13 March 2017 and follow up email on 26 March 2017.

The Council’s Human Resources Team has confirmed the following:

Mr Halliday is engaged via an agency through the Council’s contract with Matrix Ltd.  Under the process, Matrix require supplying agencies to supply references for the previous two years employment history.

These references were sent directly to the line manager recruiting the worker.  There is no requirement for our Human Resources Team to be involved in all such engagements.  The line manager also elected to seek an additional reference from the former Chief Executive of York Council and subsequently a further reference was provided to the agency by the Director of Communities and Neighbourhoods still currently working at York.

We have been advised by Mr Halliday that he refutes all the allegations which are matter of ongoing dispute between him and his previous employer. It is not appropriate for Wirral Council to comment any further on these allegations.

Regards

Eric Robinson
Chief Executive
Wirral Council

Charles tells us that in his opinion , of the three statements made in Robinson’s response, which is presumably based on from information supplied by Halliday, ‘one at least is certainly untrue, one probably untrue and another open to conjecture……’
He added further :
‘Halliday may “refute” the allegations but anyone who has read the damning report from York will scratch their heads in wonder  at such a statement………..
That the CURRENT holder of the exalted title of Director of Communities and Neighbourhood at York would not have supplied a reference and indeed the post holder would not have been the right person so to do as Halliday did not report to that person.
I have suggested that Robinson must be very embarrassed (I doubt it to be so) at passing on duff information and await his reply with interest.
I should also have asked why a Line Manager has the authority to dish out such highly paid posts.’
Charles has based his assertions on information he has received from contacts in York. Most notably CYC Cllr Mark Warters who was rather more robust in his enquiries than our very own Stressed Eric.
A blameless CYC  underling contacted Cllr Warters to explain :
‘Mary (Weastall – CYC CEO) asked me to apologise for the delay in responding but to confirm,  as far as the council is concerned we do not have a dispute with Stewart Halliday’
Indeed councillors seem to be made of sterner stuff than our own when it comes to questioning what’s has been going on with taxpayer’s money and now that the Local Government Association (LGA) has been called in to carry out a ‘peer review of the Council’s approach to procurement, including governance’ Cllr Warters remains undaunted by the  LGA’s dilly-dallying  to ‘identify suitably qualified and experienced people who could investigate specific issues and events at CYC.’   Which as Wirralians know means appointing a ‘safe pair of hands ‘ such as the likes of  LGA alumna Dr Gill Taylor  or Joyce Redfearn who shake their heads, give a slap on the wrists, take the money and run to another lucrative gig……..and make NO DIFFERENCE WHATSOEVER.
Cllr Warters asks of LGA  : ‘Without knowing the answers to the questions I posed to you it is hard to assess whether waiting for your investigation to conclude is reason to hold off any longer taking the matter to the police.’
Isn’t it a shame that our own dear councillors don’t take this more rigorous approach and report what we regard to be much more serious concerns to the local police ?

Election Selection : Week 1

Brickie 2 015.JPG

Wirral has its own NHS – who knew?

After this week’s call for a snap election we thought we’d set up a weekly report on the local political hustings fun , campaign fails and General Election jiggerypokery. Accordingly we’d like to invite our readers to send in any of their electioneering snippets and general observations on the madness of modern politicking.

The Usual Crap

First off – we’ve been forwarded the Prenton edition of the ‘Brickie to stand for Metro Mayor’ campaign leaflet first reported here : Purdah Palaver

It would seem the local Labour group are riding on the coat-tails of the Metro Mayor election and inserting information about their local wards in the middle of the glossy 4 page propaganda piece . The Prenton edition  (see above) is particularly inept featuring as it does a regurgitated press release about the Liverpool City Region by Cllr Phil ‘Power Boy Pip’ Davies and the compulsory piece about dog crap – because as we know that’s all the Wirral electorate care about according to former Wirral Council CEO Steve Maddox.

However what is most galling is the gurning features of Cllr Angela ‘CGL’ Davies and Cllr Tony ‘Tight-fit” Norbury holding a ‘Care For the NHS’ placard. The doublethink going on here is mindblowing.  Once again these mindless hypocrites are quite happy to campaign to keep the NHS from ending up in private hands – started by the Labour Party under Tony Blair , lest we forget – but are quite happy for Wirral Council services to be farmed out to the lowest bidder. Of course Cllr Angela Davies cares for the NHS so much because not only does it pay her a good wage but when the service she worked for was outsourced to Change! Grow! Live ! (FFS!) she didn’t much like it and bolted back to the warm bosom of public service. Shame she doesn’t afford that opportunity to Wirral Council employees facing redundancy and/or less favourable employment contracts in the private sector. Just sayin’!

May Day

Tip-top local blogger Wirralinittogether (geddit?) clearly doesn’t need to go to Specsavers as he counted not one, not two but three local at Tory leader Theresa May’s election launch in Bolton .

Tory Voters in Wallasey and beyond. You’re being taken for fools

All we can say the Tory councillors must’ve felt at home in Bolton at their Labour led Council is another one that thinks it can do what the bloody hell it likes with public money! Last year Bolton Council were heavily criticised for giving £300,000 of public money to a private law firm – like you do!

Moonlighting for Margaret ?

These must be trying times for Wirral Council’s renaissance man Martin Liptrotsky. Policy advisor, business guru and political campaigner – is there no beginning to this man’s talents? Having helped Margaret Greenwood win the Wirral West for Labour seat at the the last General Election we have to wonder with Liptrot being appointed to a politically restricted post at Wirral Council who Greenwood is going to get to do her ‘dirty work’ this time round? Now we were no fans of previous Wirral West MP Esther McVey but the Liptrot orchestrated campaign at the last election was perhaps the most vicious and nasty in recent memory. And we’re not talking about the abusive graffiti , we’re talking about “Lord” Prescott’s appearance on West Kirby beach and Labour deputy leader John McDonnell endorsing a comment by a local Labour activist to ‘hang the bitch’ . So much for Labour leader Jezza Corbyn’s call for ‘kinder, gentler politics’ !  Needless to say any reports that Liptrot is moonlighting for Margaret during the latest campaign will be gratefully received!……………..
