A Farewell to Frankenfield

So as the dust settles from the General Election fallout we thought we’d send a long wished for farewell to  Frankenfield! And special thanks go to one of our readers who suggested a Smiths album cover as the inspiration for a fitting tribute  both marking the end of Field’s  imperious reign as the MP for Birkenhead and the death of his political career.

Yes , whilst we acknowledge  that Angie, Ali and Maggie ensured that Wirral remains an all red peninsula we all know that the big local political story from the General Election is that the most prominent and influential  politician on Wirral for the past 4 decades has finally left the building (or rather been bundled out the emergency exit  by his former party). As we know the ex-Labour man set up his own political vanity project known to us as  Frank Field’s BS Justice Party  but officially named as the Birkenhead Social Justice Party which was supported by a rag tag of local Labour ‘rebels’ including the hopelessly devoted ever faithful factotum and new electoral agent Cllr Moira ‘Matron’ McLaughlin.

However  Field  must have known the election result was on the cards when long serving Labour Party members had been telling him they were more loyal to the  Party than to the man himself  and wouldn’t be supporting his arrogant venture and especially when his former electoral agent Cllr George Davies abandoned him for an old mucker from Vauxhall’s whilst in pursuit of his sad little ambition of becoming the next Labour Mayor of Wirral  – a position which he would have relinquished if he’d stood by his former mentor and the man who got him (and other local Labour councillors) out of many a scrape of their own making. Let’s face it it comes to something when Field has to rely on the likes of former pottymouthed Labour councillor Harry Smith for  support.

Wirral Leaks readers will know that we’ve never been a fan of the man known to us as Frankenfield (and with very good reason) and will not mourn his passing into the political wilderness . We doubt whether  Mick Whitley , his Labour successor as the MP for Birkenhead will leave behind such an enduring legacy and after Field’s glorious forty years of wallowing in poverty that can only be a good thing.

However having said all that we are certain that we haven’t heard the last of the monarch of misery. No doubt Field will be penning pity party opinion pieces  for the likes of the Daily Mail and telling everyone in the Home Counties that Labour should have listened ‘to me! me! ME!’ and how Mick and the mob from Momentum have unfairly and unceremoniously unseated him from his rightful throne.

What’s more Wirral Leaks is far from finished with Field as he’ll soon play a starring role in our outgoing series of posts which we hope may finally explain to Frankophiles why we are rejoicing that his reign in Birkenhead is finally over…

Wirral Leaks Says : Vote! Vote! Vote!

One of the reasons we’ve hung around like the fetid stench of corruption that lingers in the local corridors of power was the expectation of an impending General Election.

Now that it is election day we implore the  voters of Wirral to exercise  their democratic right . As ever we will maintain our political neutrality which is evidenced by the fact that we have been accused at various times of supporting both ends of the political spectrum.

However we will be taking a particular interest in the election result in a specific Wirral constituency. We think you can guess which one!

Therefore we intend to rouse ourselves out of our severe bout of can’t -be-arsedness brought on by a decade of political pissing in the wind and provide a full commentary on the General Election and how it could impact on the future political landscape of Wirral.

Forget the national picture for now – your vote could mean that we have the biggest political upheaval on Wirral for four decades. So use your vote wisely …

Wirral Leaks General Election Special – The Twelve Days of Christmas (Day One)

As you all know Christmas comes early this year with the General Election to be held on the 12th of December. Somewhat like Christmas scenes from Leaky Towers it promises to be the traditional family festive fare featuring rows , recriminations and ill chosen presents/politicians.

So for the next twelve days we thought we’d open our own  advent calendar from hell and report on the General Election in general and the local political manoeuvring in particular.

Therefore we’d appreciate your leaks , comments and copies of flyers that are currently doing the rounds. We’ve been sent a few of the latter already – for which many thanks.

We’ve also been sent some videos . The first one –   see here  – features Mick Whitley the prospective Labour parliamentary candidate for Birkenhead  who tells us that “It’s time for real change” . And after 40 years of Frank Field misrule we think that many people in Birkenhead will get behind that particular sentiment . Now that Frankenfield is heading up his own political vanity project in the form of the Birkenhead Social Justice Party (more on that in the coming days) the Labour Party heir apparent Mick also tells us that :

Screen Shot 2019-12-01 at 21.58.22.png

Really Mick? If that’s the case can you tell us why your video features you in deep discussion Frank Field’s former electoral agent and the current Deputy Mayor of Wirral Council, Cllr George Davies, looking particularly gorgeous in his fetching subliminal red Adidas trackie?

Screen Shot 2019-12-01 at 21.54.09.png

Might we suggest that if you truly want ‘real change in Birkenhead’ that you disassociate yourself from this corrupt , dishonest and apparently disloyal political opportunist or whatever the outcome of the General Election it would appear that whether it’s Whitley or Field that Birkenhead will be condemned to the decline, despair and deceit that has characterised the local political landscape for the past four decades…

Frank Field : A Statement of Independence

old frank

Frank Field turns to one of his many chosen media outlets (but the one with the biggest circulation and online presence) to announce that the Veteran ex–Labour MP will fight the next election as an Independent

The hagiographic Daily Mail article describes Frankenfield as “…one of the Commons’ most venerable and venerated figures…”  as the MP for Birkenhead declares :

I have decided to fight the seat at the next election against the Labour candidate. I’m sorry it’s come to this.

But then as we know Frankenfield has been fighting against the Labour Party one way or another for many years.

With the Labour candidate for the Birkenhead constituency at the next General Election  yet to be decided it would appear that the current MP for the town has already got his  election bandwagon on the road.

As a well practised political operator (not a compliment), and being close to the action in the House of Commons, is Field anticipating that a General Election is looking increasingly likely to be held before the fixed election term of May 2022, when he will then be nearly 80?…

EXCLUSIVE : And the new Parliamentary Labour candidate for Birkenhead is…

?2

As you will know from this report : EXCLUSIVE : The runners and riders in the race to be the next MP for Birkenhead we’ve been breathless with anticipation to find out who Birkenhead Constituency Labour Party (CLP) would choose to succeed Frank Field as their candidate for the next General Election .

This is the report from our man on the inside holding his head in his hands wondering whether it’s a cock up or a conspiracy…

The Selection Committee election didn’t go ahead tonight, it started off
badly with the Town Hall being locked securely causing meeting to be
transferred to The Welcome Centre on Argyle Street at the last minute.
Sadly the candidate’s statements were also locked in the Town Hall,
after initially being told the vote was going ahead without any real
knowledge of the candidate’s viewpoints, the meeting chose to take over
and it was agreed that the election will be held at a later date, as
soon as possible.

An offer of allowing each candidate to speak for two minutes was on the
table but not only was it unclear whether all the candidates were
present but also it wasn’t deemed fair that this should be sprung on
them especially with such a small time slot.

It was also suggested that the statements should emailed out, reading 16
candidate’s statements of 250 words each in the meeting (potentially
4000 words) was not considered conducive to finding the five most suitable.

Various other points were raised including one candidate’s application
appearing to be waived through despite it not being correctly received by
the deadline.

The Chairman had a hard job which wasn’t helped by the dictatorial NEC
member that was present who despite being there to ensure due process,
seemed to want to throw the rulebook away and make up his own rules on
the fly (I’m sure he will see it differently). Democracy won the day.

Rich Pickings On Animal Farm

Animal Farm House

As a companion piece to yesterday’s story we have been sent a link to a story on the Guido Fawkes website by a gobsmacked Wirralian. And yes we know Guido Fawkes has an agenda, so does The Canary and so do we. Deal with it! For avoidance of doubt our agenda is to highlight that modern (and particularly local) politics is complete self serving bollocks.

However for your delectation here is the story that was brought to our attention:

Back in October Guido ran one of our “through the keyhole” looks at Esther McVey’s Wirral home, the four bedroom house was on the market for £615,000. With our help promoting the property it sold the very next month in November for just below the asking price at £605,000.

In a strange twist, the buyer of this suburban dream home was Catriona Davies, the daughter of the leader of Wirral’s Labour Council – Philip Davies* – who, in the 2010 General Election, lost out against the now-Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, for the Wirral West seat. She bought it for cash, no mortgage needed…

*not her boyfriend Philip Davies, the Tory MP.

Link to Guido Fawkes story : here

So much we’d like to say – much (if not all) are contained in the comments below the Guido Fawkes article.  However the story strikes us as very Orwellian. ‘Animal Farm’ made flesh with the extra frisson that Birkenhead councillor Phil ‘Power Boy Pip’ Davies’ daughter allegedly now lives in the house that was once occupied by the woman who thwarted his political ambitions. As we know at the subsequent General Election McVey was ousted after what was a particularly hostile campaign co-ordinated by Pip’s West Kirby neighbour , Martin Liptrot – the man who first became Pip’s personal PR guru before being appointed to a ‘transformation’ policy wonk role at Wirral Council after a couple of ‘grace and favour’ appointments.

And so it all worked out well in the end for everyone (including McVey) didn’t it ?  – as it always does with those with the ‘right’ connections , who live in the ‘right’ areas and say – but don’t necessarily mean – the ‘right’ words. For those who don’t – and who won’t play the modern political game – not so much……….

Election Special: Leading with the Left

FFvsJC

Southpaw v Glass Jaw

Call us the ‘Imp of the Perverse’ if you must but we were delighted that the Labour Party did much better than predicted in the General Election.

Of course this was mainly because that after Birkenhead MP Frank Field’s continual sniping and undermining of Labour leader Jezza Corbyn and Wallasey MP Angela Eagle’s failed leadership coup against him , both of them now look rather foolish, duplicitous and frankly out of touch with their own Labour Party members (no change there then!)

Election Selection : Week 6

Of course we know that Corbyn was assisted by the calamitous campaign of the Conservatives and he’s getting a bit carried away with himself when he says ” It’s pretty clear who won the election”  . Sorry to have to tell you Jezza it wasn’t you or the Labour Party in terms of votes cast ,seats won or percentage of the overall vote (44% – 41%) and let’s not forget the Conservatives – with the dubious assistance of the Democratic Unionist Party – are still in power.

Nevertheless it was a jolly good show – and after Brexit and Trump yet another two finger salute from the public to political pundits.

It must be galling for Frankenfield in particular, to have to say through gritted teeth and prissy pursed lips :  “This is real success for Labour and Jeremy Corbyn”

After all, could it be that only on May 16 Frankenfield became the first Labour politician to call for the party to split after the election following what The S*n  described as an ‘expected election thumping’. Described by this disgraced organ as “the respected Labour grandee” ,they reported that Frankenfield had called for MPs to form the “People’s Labour” bloc in the Commons if Jeremy Corbyn refused to quit in June.

We’ve got news for you Frankenfield, Jezza ain’t goin’ nowhere ( although we can’t say the same about Tory leader Theresa May!)

So tell us Frank – do they serve humble pie in those foodbanks of yours?………..

His Lordship Makes An Announcement

Citizen-Leaks

Live from Leaky Towers we proudly present an important  press statement from His Lordship :

‘After serious consideration and stumping up the £500 election deposit by selling some of the family silver I have resolved to stand as the Leaky Party candidate at the next General Election.

Of course this will mean I will have to relinquish my title and forego the afternoon snoozes in the House of Lords – not to mention the expenses.

Newly appointed Wirral Leaks Press Officer Ms. McCalamity whispers in ear : ‘ I thought we agreed it would be best if you didn’t actually mention your expenses at all ! Remember that little problem you had explaining the gold-plated trouser press and the appointment of your own personal nobbler, sorry ,cobbler claiming you were only trying to emulate the incumbent MP for Birkenhead ?’ – https://order-order.com/2009/10/19/is-frank-field-really-so-saintly/

However from now I will be a commoner and appropriately enough I will be standing in the Birkenhead Constituency. For the duration of my campaign I will be known simply as Julian ( McCalamity whispers in ear) . Oh yes , we’ve agreed on a bit of rebranding and that to maximise the youth vote I will be going by name ‘Joolz’ and my election tagline will be ‘Joolz 4 Birko’ .

Her Ladyship is already busily preparing to become Birkenhead’s First Lady – as opposed to Wirral Chamber of Commerce CEO Paula Basnett who is Birkenhead First’s Lady . Because as everyone knows behind every great man is a woman rolling her eyes and running the show!

The Leaky Party will be standing on a platform of  investing and supporting public services , promoting openness, transparency and accountability, refusing to reward failure with public money, preventing the appointment of overpaid consultants, promoting meritocracy and rejecting cronyism , barring BS and spurning spin. Oh and whilst we’re at it stopping ‘Returning Officer’ payments at elections – if ever there is case of the undeserving rich it is Eric ‘ Feeble’ Robinson pocketing another 15 grand just before the summer hols. C’mon Eric – do as one of your predecessors once did and donate this unwarranted perk to charity . Might we suggest adding this election windfall to fundraising efforts for victims of the New Ferry  gas explosion. Put OUR money where the need is!

So in conclusion as I launch our campaign I say to the people of Wirral ( and particularly Birkenhead)  – let’s all rise up together and be something more than pitiers of the poor and do something more than promote ourselves, our friends and our own personal agendas.

Let the political games begin……’
