Wirral Leaks Scoops the Mooney Scoop

Matron 014
As we reported earlier this week in our Will the Red Mist descend at Misty Blues? story Cllr Bernie Mooney was under some pressure this week to preserve her nomination as Labour candidate for next May’s Wirral Council elections.

Here’s a reminder of Mooney’s rap list:
  • Multiple complaints about phone calls, done to promote herself – not permitted.
  • Using an email address “Wallasey Labour Party”, when the email was from her personally
  • The email had the Constituency Labour Party Office address on it and a photo which included people who had not been asked for permission, and were not in fact endorsing sitting councillor Mooney
  • Repeated canvassing of Branch members by phone using the Party database at a time when this is not allowed by the rules
  • Some of these phone calls also misrepresented the situation, implying that a candidate had already been chosen, and so discouraging members who favoured a full selection process from attending the meeting
  • Leafleting in support of a candidate inside the meeting venue, with other copies of the leaflets next to the signing in sheet, which is also not allowed
  • All of this conveyed the impression that the sitting councillor was the official or preferred candidate of the Labour Party
  • It was unfair to other potential candidates who might otherwise have been invited to address the meeting, and be given the chance to become the Council candidate in May 2019

So here’s subsequently what happened at ‘Misty Blues’ according to an eyewitness to the Liscard Labour Branch meeting held on Tuesday 20th November

All changed.  Very businesslike coming together with work to do.
A new and different motion:
“This branch notes the Branch Officers’ proposal that the Liscard shortlisting meeting should be re-run.  The branch however also notes the advice of the Labour Party that this is not appropriate and that instead, the issues
can be explored by a “change of circumstances” interview.  The Branch therefore calls on the Local Campaign Forum (LCF) to follow that advice.”
This motion was voted upon and overwhelmingly agreed.
The above “advice of the Labour party” was received from North West regional officer Anna Hutchinson, who had previously stated there had been “no material impact” and that the original Mooney winning vote had been above board, despite the clear evidence of multiple procedural breaches.
Mooney waited until the end to deliver a speech.  Nobody present applauded, not even her own entourage.
Mooney has to now go before the LCF for a change of circumstances interview in accordance with Labour’s democratic rulebook.  Basically to decide whether she can stay on the list of potential candidates for a re-run selection panel.
The LCF is populated by members who will decide whether the democratic rulebook is applied and may not be minded to grant much leeway should the sitting councillor’s repeated, multiple breaches of the Labour Party rulebook
be confirmed.
One outcome of the Change of Circumstances interview could be that Councillor Mooney is stripped of her potential candidacy and victory handed to the losing candidate.
These are the Democratic Labour Party rules, strictly applied to all, now and in the future and will be rigorously applied to put an end to the repeated laissez faire interpretation enjoyed by Wirral’s right wing councillors and their sympathetic NW regional rep.
However the reason we have delayed reporting these developments is because we have become aware that there has been an orchestrated campaign to circumvent party processes and an unknown “Labour party rep” has plied the ever compliant Liverpool Echo with the material for a potential story. So it would appear that some anonymous person appears to be feeling the heat.  Who could that possibly be boys and girls ?
This (militant) tendency of the local press to go for outlandish headlines and ‘trial by media’, rather than reporting on internal proceedings will no doubt be welcomed wholeheartedly by BBC-funded journalists. Luckily, once again, Wirral Leaks got there first.
It will be interesting to see if the Liverpool Echo still run the story after this latest Wirral Leaks  scoop – but if they do,regardless of political affiliations, at least we can all make up our minds about the objectivity of the local press from the following leaked email :

Hi guys,I’m from the Echo and we’ve received the following report from a Labour rep. Can you let me know if the Liscard Labour branch would like to comment on a potential story? Going to run it asap as the meeting was earlier this week.

Bernie Mooney confirmed as Labour candidate as Hard left Wirral take over fails

Hard left plans to seize control of Wirral Labour Party have been halted as Labour’s most senior officials in the region confirm Cllr Bernie Mooney is reselected as the candidate for Liscard in next May’s elections.

Cllr Mooney is the deputy labour leader in Wirral and was automatically re-selected in a ward-wide election that has infuriated hard left activists in the troubled Wallasey Labour Party.

A Labour source said:

“Earlier this year, the hard left made clear their intention to take over Wirral Labour Party and target seats including Liscard, Bidston, Pensby, Rock Ferry and New Brighton.

“But with the exception of Rock Ferry, rank and file members of Wirral Labour Party have stood up and rejected the hard left takeover and renominated sitting councillors Mooney, Kenny, Brightmore and Hackett.

“The hard left, many of whom have links to 1980’s Militant and the Socialist Workers Party, have now been roundly rejected by the majority of Labour members in seats across Wirral. The Labour Party’s membership has stood up for councillors who have served their communities well for years.

“In a desperate last attempt, local hard left activists tried to use the complex rules and structures of the Labour Party to replace Cllr Mooney with a hard left candidate of their choosing, but the national party’s officials have now drawn a line under their plotting and planning by confirming Cllr Mooney as the Labour candidate.

The source added:

“Many of these hard left activists have only just rejoined the Labour Party in the last year or two after having campaigned for Socialist Party or The Greens against Labour in previous elections.

Ultimately, who represents Liscard is a choice the electors of the ward will make in May, not a handful of left wing committee members scheming in the shadows.”

Will the Red Mist descend at Misty Blues?

Red-faced Mooney blues

As we brought to your attention in our posts Raise the Red Flag  and Mooney News and New Ferry Blues  that born again Corbyn fan Cllr Bernie ‘The Bruiser’ Mooney scraped by in Wallasey CLP selection battle winning by 3 votes (21 against 18) . However as was suggested everything may have not have been strictly legit with this particular selection process.

Indeed we aware from a leaked email that the matter will be discussed at a Special Meeting of the Liscard Labour Group to be held tonight at ‘Misty Blues’ . The rap sheet of procedural breaches is listed below and has been brought to the attention of Anna Hutchinson at Labour North West, who must be heartily sick to death of hearing the word ‘Wirral’ , but then Anna is a case study in denial when it comes to the peninsula’s political irregularities.

So will there be a re-run of the selection process and if so will the notorious Mooney  red mist descend at misty blues? We’ll keep you posted…

Liscard Labour

To Branch Members :

Tuesday 13th November meeting Cancelled;

Special Meeting called for Tuesday 20th November.

We recently had our shortlisting meeting to consider who to pick as our Council candidate next May. There were a series of complaints that the process had not been fair.

The Wirral Labour Party “Local Campaign Forum” (LCF) met on 2nd November, discussed the complaints, and decided that the shortlisting meeting should be re-run.

So I organised a meeting to do that, as requested by the LCF..

The LCF asked me to avoid sharing the reasons with you, so as not to be unfair to any possible candidate. I am aware that others have not been so restrained. By 11am on the morning after the LCF met, a Tory Councillor was tweeting about it, and an Echo and Globe reporter picked that up.

I can now tell you that at their meeting the LCF concluded that a number of procedures had been breached:

·       An email was sent to all Branch members from the sitting Councillor, using an email address “Wallasey Labour Party”, when the email was in fact from her personally and not from the Labour Party;
·       The email had the Constituency Labour Party Office address on it, and a photo which included people who had not been asked for permission, and were not in fact endorsing the sitting Councillor;
·       There was canvassing of Branch members by phone using the Party database, at a time when this is not allowed by the Rules;
·       Some of those phone calls also misrepresented the situation, implying that a candidate had already been chosen, and so discouraging members who favoured a full selection process from attending the meeting;
·       There was leafleting in support of a candidate inside the meeting venue, with other copies of the leaflets next to the signing in sheet, which is also not allowed.
·       All of this conveyed the impression that the sitting councillor was the official or preferred candidate of the Labour Party;
·       This was unfair to other potential candidates who might otherwise have been invited to speak to us all, and given the chance to become our Council candidate in May 2019.

Two people were put forward at the meeting as possible candidates. The meeting voted by 21-18 not to have a further meeting where members could hear from both those candidates. The sitting Councillor was thus selected by that small margin.
The LCF view is that the breaches of the procedures had a material impact on the outcome and it should be re-run.

However the LCF have informed me that the Regional Director of the Labour Party (a  full time official who works for the Party) does not agree that the breaches had a material impact, and that she thinks the shortlisting meeting should not be re-run.
Discussions between the LCF and the Regional Director are continuing.

The Branch Officers have met and decided to cancel the meeting on Tuesday 13th November, whilst the Party resolves the issue. But we think it is important that all members of the Branch have a chance to express a view.

We are therefore calling a special meeting of the Branch on Tuesday 20th November 7.30pm at Misty Blues, Manor Road / Grosvenor Street Liscard CH44 1AG, to consider this Motion:

“This Branch agrees that the Liscard shortlisting meeting should be re-run”.

YES! ‘Matron’ McLaughlin was the next Labour resignation!

Matron 011

Hit the road Mac – and don’t you come back no more,no more,no more,no more…

As you all know we already knew the answer to the question we posed yesterday  Is ‘Matron’ McLaughlin the next Labour resignation?

And indeed as we revealed it was the ECHO who brought us the news. Although we’re sorry/not sorry we pissed all over ‘Local Democracy Reporter’ Tom Houghton’s carefully planned ‘exclusive’

You get a flavour of what’s to come from the headline “We’re on road to Militant’  as Matron McLaughlin is indulged ad nauseum… if you’ve got the stomach for it you can read the deranged rant here

However here are some observations from Leaky Towers . It seems to us there are very good reasons as to why the local party are getting heartily sick of ‘long-serving’ – or should that be ‘self -serving’? – Labour councillors. Describing their own party members as a ‘hard-left clique of unelected Labour Party officials, driven by their rigid and unrealistic ideology in their distorted version of democracy  – an ideology which is not shared by the communities we are elected to serve’ . Who wrote that for you Matron? – is Martin Liptrot back writing the purple -headed prose? You lot certainly love the word ‘distorted’ don’t you? And as for ‘clique’ – Matron has benefited from being part of Frank Field’s bent cabal for years and seemingly doesn’t like the taste of her own medicine.  Our advice to Matron would be to take two aspirin and tell us  how she feels in the morning.

And of course no press release ,sorry, report would be complete without allegations of ‘bullying’ and ‘intimidation’ . Examples of ‘intimidation’ included a local campaign forum sending “observers” to group meetings and calls for every piece of literature put out to constituents checked”.  Somebody call Amnesty International –  have you ever heard of such heinous violations of human rights?!

And all this feigned victimhood nonsense is coming from someone who oversaw the most appalling  PROVEN bullying and harassment when she was horrifyingly the Wirral Council lead for the notoriously dysfunctional Department of Adult Social Services and who went on to add insult to (personal) injury by publicly declaring her loyalty to those responsible for creating the toxic culture and the toxic debts!

Needless to say Matron goes on to have a moan about ‘targeted abuse’ on social media but wisely doesn’t mention ‘a certain website’ :

I wrote at regional level and sent them the social media posts.

I said you have a duty of care to us as individuals. To protect them from the hard-left clique. I asked them ‘would you please fulfil your duty of care to me?Use what information you have to control them – but I didn’t even get a response.

What a telling comment from Matron that is and a typical response from Labour North West. It’s all about me,me ME!!!  Tell us Matron where was the duty of care to protect social care staff from harassment and disabled people from abuse? As we’ve previously reported Labour North West have known about the deep seated problems with the Labour Party on Wirral and have simply ignored the festering pustule that is about to pop! However the killer comment is :

USE WHAT INFORMATION YOU HAVE TO CONTROL THEM

Now if there is one phrase that sums up everything that is wrong with not only the Labour old guard  but senior public officials on Wirral it is this perfect encapsulation of their mutual modus operandi . They’ve all got something on each other and it’s a means of retaining power and control.  We think this is reason enough to drain the cesspit of Wallasey Town Hall once and for all.

However we couldn’t finish without commenting on this breathtaking hypocrisy from Matron likening the current day to Labour’s Militant period of the 1980s, she said:

The hard-left are working to take control of the council. But it’s so difficult to run the council in current climate with the budget allocation we have got. I don’t know where they are going to nick money from, or how they will implement their policies.

Perhaps they can ‘nick money’ from disabled people, Matron. After all it (almost) worked for Wirral Council and the drugs money launderers who they did business with on your watch.

Frank Field Vox Pop Part 2

Frank press cuttings 003

Above are some of the redacted comments that according to Frank Field friend and ally Mail on Sunday have appeared on social media in the wake of his resigning the whip and his comments about bullying, intimidation and anti-semitism in the Labour Party (and particularly the local Labour Party). Whilst undoubtedly it wouldn’t be a pleasant  experience to be on the receiving end of such comments we have to ask ourselves what exactly does he expect when he labels people ‘thugs’ , ‘toerags’ (and worse) and then suddenly discovers that there are people without his power and influence who only have a PC and a pottymouth and aren’t afraid to use it! Is any of the above worse than referring to a council officer “a bloody useless Chink” as Field’s electoral agent once did ? No, it isn’t – because the people making the comments don’t have the power of  Cllr George Davies ,Deputy Leader of Wirral Council, to directly prejudice or influence important political decisions.

What’s more according to former Wirral Labour councillor Louise Reecejones (LRJ) Field himself once advised her that she needed to “harden up ,bullying is part of politics”. Whilst we acknowledge that LRJ is not the most reliable of sources it is something we can well believe her on this one as it is the type of arrogant statement we can imagine him saying. LRJ made the claims in a ‘press release’ to the Daily Telegraph in the knowledge that they were going to publish a story which included damning comments from Field.  In the interest of journalistic balance The Daily Telegraph chose not to print a word of LRJ’s statement in defence. Consequently LRJ has chosen to share it on social media and here it is . Please note : the typos, grammatical errors and spelling mistakes are LRJ’s own.

My press release to the telegraph who are publishing a negative story about me tomorrow thanks to Frank Field.

I am responding to this from Hospital, I have been poorly for over three years and spent most of this year in Hospital, proberly brought on by stress.Mr field and his supporters are fully aware I have been so poorly and not even been active in the party, and yet he continues to behave in this way.

The panel you refer to I am not even going to justify with an answer, because there are no words to describe the lengths people go to to discredit and try to break a person. There is also Franks friend ex Labour Cllr James Crabtree who was convicted after his threats against me following the murder of Jo Cox MP.

Frank field has publicly attempted to discredit me, and the charity I am involved for disabled children and their families, this is minuted in Birkenhead CLP. Frank field gave me advice that I need to harden up, bullying is part of politics, well I said it then and I say it now. Bullying has not place in a civilised society and as an MP I was shocked that was your view.Franks conduct speaks for its self, any MP who writes for the S@@ rag has no place in politics.I wish Frank well for the future and any other Councillor waiting to take the headlines over the coming weeks with resignations from Wirral Labour.

I fully support Jeremy Corbyn and have supported him before he was ever on a leadership ballot paper, he is a proud man with clear values and integrity. This is what our country needs and this is what some members don’t want. I am proud to be a socialist with a kind heart, always putting others first and working hard to make a difference.

Times have changed, Birkenhead CLP and the other three Wirral CLP’s are now pleasant, its an environment that I can now allow my children to attend without the fear of shouting and nastiness. We welcome all new members of all backgrounds abilities and ages for friendly, socialist debate.

Kind regards,Louise Reecejones

The Daily Telegraph‘s sister paper The Sunday Telegraph continued the saga of internal strife within the local Labour Party by including a tale re-told by long- time fawning Field acolyte Cllr Moira ‘Matron’ McLaughlin and a clash of handbags in the street between Labour councillors Angela Davies and Tony Norbury , this classy little incident apparently reduced two Labour Party members to tears – though presumably not McLaughlin, Davies and Norbury who would be well aware of Frank’s dictum that ‘bullying was part of politics’  Read full story here : Ghost of Militant Barges Through Birkenhead

All of which adds to the impression of a local party about to implode. However according to leaked emails we have received none of this should come as any surprise to North West Regional Director of Labour , Anna Hutchinson. The emails were sent to her in July and September 2016 and includes compelling evidence of  allegations of misconduct by Labour politicians including Field, Cllr George Davies, former Labour  leader Cllr Steve Foulkes and current Wirral Council leader Cllr Phil Davies .

We have agreed not to publish the correspondence for the time being but it has been agreed that we can publish the prophetic and telling statements which end both of the emails.

Email 1 : “You may choose to ignore these allegations but you can’t say you weren’t told …”

Email 2:  “You have a problem with your politicians on Wirral – a real problem”

Now with Wirral Council ‘leader’ Cllr Phil ‘Power Boy Pip’ Davies doing his bit for ‘The Gang’ by asking for an investigation into the local Labour Group. Read more here – Labour Council Leader Demands Bullying Investigation In Wake Of Frank Field Resignation  – We would suggest that knowing what we know Pip needs to be careful what he wishes for…

LRJ : An Unofficial Announcement

Resignation letter

Here we have a social media post from our old friend and correspondent Cllr Louise Reecejones (LRJ). We’ve omitted 2 paragraphs ( containing either personal details or plugs for her charity) , other than that all words , as far as we know, are LRJ’s own. We’ve decided to publish in the public interest mainly because it would appear that LRJ has “made the move to withdrawn (sic) from politics” and therefore surely the local electorate need to know exactly what this means:

Last night I made the move to withdrawn (sic) from politics due to the extreme stress the constant targeting I have faced personally that has put extreme pressure on my health , this is not stress from those residents that I have served as that has been an absolute pleasure.

I would like to thank the one Labour councillor who had wished me well ……., it shows there is at least one good person . I won’t name them as I wouldn’t want them targeted. (Although I believe they can hold their own)

I believe in Jeremy Corbyn and what Labour stands for , I have principles I will not push to one side in order to make friends , I will not stand by an watch bully’s (sic) at work and I will not keep quiet to stop myself being bullied as I was not brought up that way.

My purpose was to make change and make a difference to children and adults with disabilities. I don’t believe in the current climate that there is any intention to change things on Wirral. I see so many children and their families in crisis and more energy is given to try and discredit me through the press , than change a way of working xx

I’ve not gone anywhere and will be back stronger than ever ,just without the noose …

First thing to say is that we have no problem believing that some local Labour councillors ” can hold their own” – let’s face it many of them don’t have a choice! The second thing to say is that LRJ doesn’t paint a pretty picture of what it’s like being a local Labour councillor does she?  However we don’t appear to have had any official confirmation from the local Labour group or Wirral Council that indeed LRJ no longer features among their ranks . Whilst LRJ is still listed on Wirral Council website as a councillor for the Pensby and Thingwall ward – and presumably still collecting her council allowances  – she was a notable absentee from this week’s annual Wirral Council budget meeting held earlier this week.

foulkesy-lrj-012

The Nolan Principles in motion : Comrade LRJ putting on a show of solidarity with Comrade Foulkesy (mate of Comrade Crabby)  – awks!

If she is true to her word we have to say we will be sad to see LRJ go ( pass us an onion) as she was such good source of stories for us if nothing else. Who could forget her epic feud with ex – Labour councillor Jim ‘Crabby’ Crabtree  and how that ended up with him getting a criminal conviction ? LRJ then went from victim to victimiser and ended up falling foul of Wirral Council’s pisspoor ‘Standards’ ( ha!ha!) regime, refusing to apologise to either members of the public that she’d badmouthed on social media or councillors who feigned being ‘appalled’ at her conduct. Let’s face it the councillors were just miffed she didn’t meekly ‘ Do-a-Foulkesy’ and say she’d been very naughty and she wouldn’t do it again……..until the next time. She then threatened Wirral Council and former and current Monitoring Officer ( Surjit Tour and Philip McCourt respectively) with legal action. We also understand she made further allegations against another Labour councillor ( but respect and decorum prevents us from pursuing that particular story any further).

We have to say that from our first post that mentioned LRJ and which dealt with her original suspension by North West Labour Party in May 2015 we always thought her days were numbered. Therefore she appears to have done well to have lasted this long before apparently throwing in the towel. As we said at the time her only hope was to foster a friendship with Frank Field. He wasn’t keen and her fate was sealed. Read more here : Suspension Suspense

Whatever the situation we suspect that the local Labour group will want to keep very quiet on this one – at least until after the local elections in May.  But will LRJ?

Social media strategy

Sorry/Not Sorry – The LRJ saga continues

Not Sorry 2

It is perhaps appropriate that Halloween sees the unveiling of the latest instalment of Cllr Louise Reecejones (LRJ) saga.

The previous two instalments can be found here :

Crabby v LRJ The Feud Continues

An LRJ Reaction

Wirral Leaks readers will remember that The Standards Panel of 15th June 2017 determined that LRJ had breached the Members’ Code of Conduct. The Panel decision required a number of actions to take place, including reporting the outcome to  Wirral Council’s Standards and Constitutional Oversight Committee on 31st October to check whether LRJ has complied with the sanctions against her. The decision was subject to LRJ’s appeal which, considering the evidence against her, inevitably fell flat on its face. The report to the Committee sets out the steps that have, or have not, been taken by LRJ and other interested parties in responding to the actions required……..and it makes very interesting reading and might we suggest will lead to some intriguing political questions .

The report of  Philip McCourt (Interim Assistant Director – Law & Governance /Monitoring Officer)  who is currently auditioning to be Surjit Tour’s successor can be found  HERE

As you can see there are a number of recommendations made to the  Committee . The most damning being set out at recommendation (d) that LRJ

(i) has been, and continues to be, an unreliable witness;
(ii) has attempted to mislead both the investigator conducting the
review and the monitoring officer in attempting to enforce the
sanctions of the Standards Panel; and

(iii) has continued to use her position and influence as a councillor to
victimise the complainants by making false allegations against
them via social media and to others
in breach of her obligations under the Members Code of Conduct

Now for us this is where it gets really interesting  because as a result of  of the Standards Panel held on 15th June the Labour Political Group Leader (presumably  Cllr Phil ‘ Power Boy Pip’ Davies) was asked to consider whether party disciplinary action should be taken against Councillor Reecejones and whether she should be removed (through Council) from all outside bodies to which she has been appointed.

Strangely such recommendations were not made by the Standards Panel at Cllr Steve Foulkes  Code of Conduct hearing held in August 2016 – where it could be argued that Foulkesy’s proven dishonesty was much more serious and much more damaging to Wirral Council.

WIRRALGATE! – Half the Story

However  in the light of LRJ  Standards Panel hearing she was suspended from the Labour Group indefinitely. On appeal to the Labour North West , this action was
commuted to a suspension of four months, to 6th January 2018, on the condition that Cllr Reecejones makes the formal apology required of her.

LRJ’s  belated ‘sorry/not sorry’ response set out below (which is included in McCourts’s report above ) will need to be considered by the Standards Panel and the Labour Group

Dear Overchurch Residents Association,
I am writing to you as an outcome to the standards panel of 15th June
2017, I apologise for breaching the members code of conduct.
Yours Sincerely,
Cllr Louise Reecejones”
The other letters contained the same or less, but were additionally
accompanied by a final statement that read:
“This letter is solely for the recipient and should not be for publication “

We will have to wait and see whether this will suffice to save LRJ’s political skin. But having ,at least in the eyes of the Labour Group power elite anyway, been seen as being responsible for taking down one of their own ( ex Cllr Jim Crabtree) we don’t fancy her chances of retaining her current status as a Labour councillor.

If this does transpire we’d be interested to know how the Labour Group justify their kid glove approach to the likes of Cllr George Davies and  Cllr Steve Foulkes. Neither have even been suspended let alone face any kind of meaningful sanction for what frankly amounts to criminality – but then when the Labour Political Group Leader Cllr Phil Davies and the Labour Political Group Godfather are implicated in the cover up of their crime what should we expect?

Tellers and Tremors

Field pointing

Frank addresses the Birkenhead CLP : “I’m a teller and you lot do as your told “

Just a quick  update on last night’s Birkenhead Constituency Labour Party (CLP) meeting which promised to be earth-shattering

Whilst you can read the Skwawkbox report that is headlined BIRKENHEAD RESULT ‘MIXED BUT SEISMIC’- AND CONTROVERSY AS MP COUNTS VOTES

we also received eyewitness reports suggesting that whilst there were a few concessions and accommodations made but the old guard fought a rearguard(!) action and  consequently they described the outcome of the meeting as more of a slight tremor than a seismic earthquake .

However it was clear the cabal was rattled with Birkenhead MP Frank Field taking his control freakery to a whole new level by acting as a teller at the vote count. What is interesting to us  that as far as the Skwawkbox  know , no Labour MP has acted as a teller before and :

‘This caused consternation among members and the regional Labour regional representative at the meeting reportedly told members that if they decided to put a complaint in about the MP teller, he would have to uphold it. As yet, no decision on a complaint is known to have been made.’

However breath-holding is not advised on Labour North West taking any action against Field even if the matter is referred to them. Nevertheless ,with Field facing the first significant challenge to his autocracy in many years , these are particularly interesting times for local politics which means that Wirral Leaks remains on stand by with the Geiger counter.

Mayor Balls

Metro Loco 015

So have you all voted yet in the bore-fest that is the Liverpool City Region Metro Mayor election?

We studied the Mayoral election booklet that was sent to Leaky Towers before we decided where to place our X ( or X X – as we lucky people get to choose a second candidate!) We’re still not sure what the Liverpool City Region ‘Metro’ Mayor is for , although we read that he – because let’s face it it will be Steve the Brickie – will have a range of powers including strategic housing and planning ,transport and highways, business growth, energy and environment, finance and European funding.  He’ll be a busy boy then – although doing what exactly we’re not quite sure. I suppose we should be thankful that this election didn’t take place 20 years ago as our very own Frank Field said he’d fancy his chances. Can you imagine Frankenfield meddling in everything left, right and centre? Frightening! But anyway back to the current eight candidates and their policies/pledges/pleas/promises – call them what you will…………………… http://liverpoolcityregionelects.org/media/1006/mayoral-booklet.pdf

We’re trying to be objective here but what struck us reading them all is that Steve ‘Brickie’ Rotheram’s pages are decidedly short on any actual concrete plans. Plenty of soundbites and platitudes  and needless to say ‘the vision thing’-  “ My vision is for a region that is ambitious ,fair, green, connected and together”, ” I will stand up for every community and ensure every voice is listened to”  etc; etc;  Yes , Steve , but how?

All of the other candidates set out exactly what they want to do and how they want to do it . Even though one candidate Paul Breen doesn’t appear in the booklet at least we can tell from his handle Get The Coppers Off The Jury what he wants to achieve !

Roger Bannister ( Trade Unionist and Socialist Coalition – TUSC) may not be the same man who was the first to run the mile in under 4 minutes but he does set out 5 key aims.  Tony Caldeira (the Conservative Party) sets out a 6 point ‘Tony’s Plan for the City Region’ .

Similarly Tom Crone (Green Party)) has a 5 point plan as does Tabitha Morton ( Women’s Equality Party) who has the same number of ‘priorities’. Carl Cashman has 4 parts to his ‘vision’ whilst Paula Walters (UKIP) must have double vision as there are 8 parts to her particular ‘vision’ for the City region.

Shame that none of the visions ,plans ,priorities will come to fruition as we know that with six boroughs in the City region and all of them Labour-controlled that Steve the Brickie is a shoo-in . This might explain his ‘can’t be arsed’ entry prepared by his agent , head of North West Labour executive, Anna Hutchinson. We are however treated to a full page picture of Steve the Brickie wistfully gazing into the middle distance wearing a ’96’ badge , campaigning wristbands and stroking a puppy ( we made the bit about the puppy up – but you get our drift).

So having considered all the information on offer we’ve decided to vote for Tabitha Morton from the Women’s Equality Party. With a name like that she seems to be ‘one of us! one of us! one of us!’ to purloin Steve the Brickie’s rather cultish election tagline. Talking of cults wouldn’t it also be good to shake up the tired old male -dominated City Region political scene? Go Tabitha!

Metro Loco 022

Jim’ll Fix It

JCSUPERTAR

We’re hearing there were some very curious campaigning practices leading up the elections in May including Frank “Family Man” Field being accompanied on his doorstep visits by 2 children ( a boy and a girl) on his rounds in Rock Ferry. Any further information and witness reports on what all that was about will be gratefully received.

However by far and away the most worrying information we have received concerns the electioneering antics of belligerent Bidston & St.James councillor Jim “Crabby” Crabtree.

It is alleged by an appalled Labour insider that on the run up to Polling Day Crabtree loaded up the mini -bus he has access to as a tutor in horticulture at the Twelve Quays site with a group of Special Educational Needs kids and a teaching assistant from Meadowside Special School to help him deliver leaflets on behalf of the Labour Party………

It is further alleged an irate parent who got wind of this exploitative and wholly unethical practice complained to no avail to Cllr Matthew Daniel who was running the local Labour campaign.

They then tried complaining to the Davies a trio of Phil,George and then Bill (Labour’s Chief Whip – who seems to be doing a really miserable job of reining in his seemingly totally out of control councillors ).

After receiving no response from any of them the concerned parent then wrote to Anna Hutchinson the Regional Director of Labour North West. Hutchinson did not reply.

Undaunted the persistent parent emailed Hutchinson again and received a reply saying that Labour North West would look into it.
After weeks of no response from Labour North West and after receiving an abusive email from the charming Cllr Crabtree they sent all the paperwork concerning the incident by recorded delivery to new Wirral Council CEO “Stressed” Eric Robinson along with a formal complaint.

After what seems to be Eric the Red’s quickly established decisive executive decision making process of “I -don’t-know-what-to-do-so-I’ll-ignore-it” the complainant was compelled to email him again and he finally responded by passing the buck and saying the hot potato was in the scorched hands of Surjit Tour and he would be communicating directly with them.

As we go to press and true to form it seems that the “bloody useless” (© copyright Cllr.G.Davies) Director of Law has not communicated directly with the pushed-around parent – unless of course he’s practising the skills he’s picked up on a telepathic communications course.

Give him his due it seems that a re-born Brian Kenny having spent some time in the political wilderness after being ousted from his seat in Birkenhead & Tranmere has seen the light and on returning to Wirral Council as a councillor representing the same Bidston & St.James ward as Crabtree has expressed his disgust at these turn of events – although it seems his disgust doesn’t extend to actually helping the parent ensure that they actually get their complaint properly addressed.

However, we’re sure that “Crabby” and co will want to make a full and frank denial of these allegations and we look forward to him clearing up any misunderstanding as soon as possible.
Whilst he’s at it Jimbo might want to explain the curious circumstances from a few years back which led to his sudden departure from the employment of Wirral Council when he was a lowly support worker at Dale Farm.

Now that he’s rapidly risen through the ranks to chair the Audit and Risk Management Committee we’re sure that in the interest of openness and transparency “Crabby” will want to establish his impeccable credentials to lead Wirral Council on matters relating to accountability and corporate governance
